What did you learn from this assignment?
In this assignment I was the person that had to figure out what story was being told by the pictures that were drawn. I had a difficult time at first figuring out where the story started and where it ended, but once I figured it out I started to understand the story. One thing I learned from this assignment is that when telling a story through pictures it helps when the events in the story are set up in such a way that the reader knows where the starting point of the story is. I also learned through this assignment that drawing pictures is a way for children to communicate and if there are not enough details in the picture or pictures that it can be very hard to determine what story the pictures are trying to tell.
How do you feel about writing?
I have never been a fan of writing. It has always been a weak area of mine. In middle and high school I remember having to write research papers and essays and how long it would take me to finish them. I had a very hard time concentrating in school because of my ADD. When I would get my grade back for those assignments it wasn't always the best. However, I do see where it is very useful in helping to tell a story and to get someone's point across.

I definitely understand how writing can be difficult with ADD. I also struggled with ADD throughout high school, and now at college. Once I figured out that I have to be in a completely secluded area with absolutely no sound, I realized I can focus and write much easier!
ReplyDeleteBy you having ADD and sharing with me before how its a major obstacle as you learn, you've taught me to be more considerate of what it's like for you and others with ADD in the classroom. I think learning more through you will help me know how I can best accommodate for my students in the future. I appreciate you sharing those struggles because you will have your own students that face the same things and inspire them to see how you've succeeded regardless. Go Kristen!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel, in middle school language arts was my hardest subject and the least fun for me. I had lots of papers and things due that were hard for me to stay interested and concentrate on. What I have learned for me is that powerful and motivating music that is playing low in the background actually helps my writing. It helps me get ideas and creativity flowing. I have ADD and with taking my medicine and finding a place (not in my room) with my low music is a great combination for me personally to get my writing done. Being a visual learner reading isn't always the best way for me to learn so pictures are a great way for me to understand and remember information the best.
