GSW Pre-K Book Writing Assignment

Each student in the education class was assigned one or two students in the GSW Pre-K program to assist in writing and illustrating a book. The assignment covered a period of a couple of weeks in which we met with the students for fifteen minutes a day every Monday and Wednesday. I was given a girl and a boy to help complete a book. The first day got off to a good start. I introduced myself to the students and explained that they were going to write a book and draw pictures to illustrate the story. The boy made up a story about a monster and drew some pictures. The girl chose to write about a female super hero and drew a few pictures. Judging from their excitement on that first day, I thought this was going to be an easy assignment, but I was wrong. On the second day of the assignment, I knew I was not prepared. Both the students wanted to change their stories. I let them draw and tell me about their pictures and tried to guide them to writing a story with a beginning and an...

Videos

1st video: I really like how the teacher uses enthusiasm to encourage the student. The teacher doesn't tell the student what to write, but helps them if they are confused with what they need to do next. 2nd video: Kindergartners are just learning how to spell words. This video explains about how you can incorporate games into learning words for Kindergartners.

______ it drives me crazy.

It drives me crazy when someone talks over someone else; it drives me crazy because it's very rude to talk over someone. It really bothers me when someone loudly talks over someone else and doesn't apologize. I really think people should just wait their turn to speak besides speaking out like that. Can't we all just wait our turn? It drives me crazy!

Thanksgiving

Ginny Stillson, Kristen Smith, Lauren Resnick Thanksgiving I went home to Colquitt and ate Thanksgiving dinner. Instead of a traditional Thanksgiving meal, we had to eat Chinese take out. My mom washed the dishes which was really just the chopsticks while my dad walked the dogs. I decided to go on my own walk and I saw a stranger that turned out to be my sister's boyfriend. We remembered the time our dad dropped the turkey last year which made us realize it was a good idea that we chose to eat Chinese food this year instead. We whispered words about grandpa feeding the dog cranberry sauce under the table and how this year grandpa fed the dog sesame chicken. The dog got sick but it was a great Thanksgiving.

Legend says there once were twin boys named Gregory and David, who lived in a forest outside of England. The twins were alike in many ways, but they were also very different. Gregory had an interest in science and how the world worked. David, on the other hand, was very interested in magic. It bothered Gregory that his brother was so interested in something that was make believe, so he set out to prove to his brother that it wasn't real. He led his brother out to the swing they used to play on when they were really young. "Why must you believe in this nonsense David?" "Do you not know that it is imaginary?" David replied, "Poor brother, magic is real and I can show you." David led Gregory far into the forest between two trees that was a gateway into another realm. When Gregory stepped between the two trees he immediately saw a dragon in the distance and was amazed. David smiled and said, " I have someone I would like for you to meet, but first we ...

There once was a 10 year old boy named John. He lived in Alaska with his parents Jim and Nancy Freeman. John was an ice dancer. Instead of a dance partner, he danced with a stuff toy monkey. They won many competitions. One day, John looked over at monkey and told him that he wanted to go solo, but monkey didn't like this idea and began to cry. This stuffed monkey's tears contained a magic that brought him to life. Now in the middle of the ice rink John found himself twisting and twirling with a real live monkey! This monkey then decided maybe it was a good idea to go solo and broke away from John. "If solo is what you want, be prepared to be taken down," he said. The monkey began to skate better than anyone John had ever seen before. John became very jealous of monkey, so he suggested that they have a competition and see who was the better skater. The following week was the ice skating contest. John was the first to skate. He was extremely talented and did his very b...
